Postupně si získá náklonnost obou dětí, podaří se jí zbavit prostoduchého černocha Solomona, pracujícího u Bartelových, stejně tak úspěšně zinscenuje „náhodou“ smrt rodinné přítelkyně, která začala tušit podivný původ starostlivé chůvy. Claire se hroutí rodinný život, podezírá manžela z nevěry, ona sama jen o vlásek unikne smrti, ale už tuší, kdo je původcem rozpadu její rodiny. Odhodlá se bít o své děti a muže...".
